Trinity not a Jewish concept

G-d is One! He can’t be a 3-part G-d!

The divinity of Jesus was never a clear teaching in Christianitys infancy. As the Christians have a lot of “proof-texts” to proof that Jesus was The Messiah, we also have our “reversed proof-texts” on a playful way:

3 Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.
(Psalm 146:3 Hebr/Eng Bible, JPS 1917)

Jesus refers himself as the Son of Man in the New Testament. This vers from the Psalm does not refer to Jesus or Messiah, but this is just a cute way to look at this verse.

9 Wilt thou yet say before him that slayeth thee: I am God? But thou art man, and not God, in the hand of them that defile thee.
10 Thou shalt die the deaths of the uncircumcised by the hand of strangers; for I have spoken, saith the Lord GOD.

(Ezekiel 28:9-10 Hebr/Eng Bible, JPS 1917)

What if G-d said to Jesus that “you are not a god, you are just a man!” and “you shall die the death of the uncircumcised by the hands of the strangers”, that will say, Jesus was killed by the Romans. That is how it goes when we play with the Scriptures as Christians do! Those verses do not refer to Jesus, but we can also show that we, as the Christians, have “proof-texts” as well.

9 I will not execute the fierceness of Mine anger, I will not return to destroy Ephraim; for I am God, and not man, the Holy One in the midst of thee; and I will not come in fury.
(Hosea 11:9 Hebr/Eng Bible, JPS 1917)

29 And also the Glory of Israel will not lie nor repent; for He is not a man, that He should repent.’
(1 Samuel 15:29 Hebr/Eng Bible, JPS 1917)

19 God is not a man, that He should lie; neither the son of man, that He should repent: when He hath said, will He not do it? or when He hath spoken, will He not make it good?
(Numbers 23:19 Hebr/Eng Bible, JPS 1917)

We see that these verses in the Jewish Tanach show that G-d is NOT a man!

16 The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers; every man shall be put to death for his own sin.
(Deuteronomy 24:16 Hebr/Eng Bible, JPS 1917)

Messiah is someone who fears G-d

1 And there shall come forth a shoot out of the stock of Jesse, and a twig shall grow forth out of his roots.
2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.

(Isaiah 11:1-2 Hebr/Eng Bible, JPS 1917)

9 But they shall serve the LORD their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them.
(Jeremiah 30:9 Hebr/Eng Bible, JPS 1917)

23 And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even My servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd.
24 And I the LORD will be their God, and My servant David prince among them; I the LORD have spoken.

(Ezekiel 34:23-24 Hebr/Eng Bible, JPS 1917)

24 And My servant David shall be king over them, and they all shall have one shepherd; they shall also walk in Mine ordinances, and observe My statutes, and do them.
(Ezekiel 37:24 Hebr/Eng Bible, JPS 1917)

Here we see that the Tanach is contrasting the Christian view on who messiah is. The anointed is the Israeli king that will rule in the last days, it’s a preview to what will come in a distant future.

5 afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the LORD their God, and David their king; and shall come trembling unto the LORD and to His goodness in the end of days.
(Hosea 3:5 Hebr/Eng Bible, JPS 1917)

2 The kings of the earth stand up, and the rulers take counsel together,
against the LORD, and against His anointed:

(Psalm 2:2 Hebr/Eng Bible, JPS 1917)

Let’s go to the Christian New Testament and see how it refers to Jesus as The Messiah/G-d (or not).

And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone.”
(Mark 10:18 NASB)

Many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am He!’ and will mislead many. When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be frightened; those things must take place; but that is not yet the end.
(Mark 13:6, 7 NASB)

Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.
(Mark 13:31 NASB)

Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. You heard that I said to you, ‘I go away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved Me, you would have rejoiced because I go to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.
(John 14:1, 28 NASB)

For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
(1 Timothy 2:5 NASB)

Jesus said to her, “Stop clinging to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I ascend to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God’.”
(John 20:17 NASB)

But I want you to understand that Christ is the head of every man, and the man is the head of a woman, and God is the head of Christ.
(1 Corinthians 11:3 NASB)

We see that the first Christians did not believe that Jesus and G-d was one!
